The Las Productoras communal bank is made up of eight women who live in the beautiful parish of Baños in the city of Cuenca. This parish is highly frequented thanks to its hot springs which stem from its inactive volcano. The area has many places for the old and young to play and there is also a rich gastronomy here. Its people, just as the members of this group, are all friendly and hard-working women who fight for their families' well-being.

One of the members of this group is Deisi, she is the president of the Las Productoras communal bank. She has been actively participating in this group for three years, a period over which the loans have helped her to grow the business and improve her home.

Deisi is married and the fruit of her marriage is a 3-year-old son. Her husband works as a mechanic and works in his own workshop. The home in which they live is rented.

Deisi spends her time tending to the household chores, and for the last two years she has been selling natural products. She sells her merchandise from door to door and every moment she has an opportunity to do so. She will invest the money from the loan in natural products for her customers. Her dream is to get to know several countries.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
