K. Rose is a member of Abateesa women's group and the mother of Serubogo Jane Francis, also a group member. Rose has a clinic that is managed by her daughter but her main business for the past 6 years is poultry farming. She has over 800 chickens, both broilers and layers. She is married with 10 children, including 4 orphans belonging to her late children. This is her forth year with her lending group, and has nothing but kind words regarding the group lending, especially for people like herself who lack collateral to get loans from big banks. Whenever she gets a loan, she makes sure that she stocks chicken feed and mash. Repayments are usually possible with the sale of eggs and broilers. Right now, the maize for chicken feed is quite expensive and this has increased the price she must ask for her eggs and chickens. If not for the loans from Pearl Microfinance, she would be out of business.
