Marta
Marta, 35, is a hardworking entrepreneur who dedicates herself to the cultivation of corn and beans, work she has done for many years. She learned to farm from her parents who knew how to teach her these skills. They passed their knowledge down so that she would also work as a farmer in the future is she chose to do so. Together with her partner, she works daily to generate income to support her family. She is very grateful to her parents for having supported her studies in primary school where she learned to read and write. Her crops are located within a mile of her house. She has a daily walking commute to support and maintain her crops, avoiding birds, worms, and other pests. She works with her partner.

Marta has requested funding from COMIXMUL to purchase agricultural inputs such as fertilizer, manure, and certified seed for planting corn and beans on her property. They will work to achieve a harvest that are not damaged by pests. She does not want to lose their crop and waste so much effort and sacrifice that she and her partner have put into their crops. Her plans and dreams are to have her child graduate from school and be a person who thrives in life, with greater insight to adapt and work in any social setting.

Additional Information

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
