Ruben grew up in Tijuana, Mexico and recently moved to the United States, aspiring to start something on his own. In college, he studied public administration and Spanish, and also has a solid business background. In a stroke of luck, Ruben was approached by his cousin, Jorge, to help him start an automotive window repair business. Jorge had been working in the automotive industry for over 15 years in Tijuana prior to coming to San Diego.
With Ruben’s business experience and Jorge’s expertise, the two were well matched to start JR Auto Glass, a mobile windshield replacement business. They are already utilizing their networks to secure contracts with a few local car dealers and large corporations, such as Arrowhead Water.
This $5,000 Kiva loan will help with their start-up costs, including purchasing a van, equipment, permits and uniforms. Ruben emphasized that he wants to do everything professionally and establish a reputation for offering only high quality service; therefore, he does not want to cut any corners while getting the business up and running.
Ruben is very serious about the future of their business and hopes to build a strong enough customer base to be able to work full-time at the business within 12 months. He also hopes to provide his mother and three sisters who live in Tijuana the financial stability and flexibility to seek out new opportunities in life.
