Roberto
Roberto, 34, is a hardworking and organized man. He earns a living with his own business, a print shop he started several years ago. He learned the trade 14 years ago thanks to a relative who had always worked in that profession. There Roberto learned some processes and later had the opportunity to go out on his own. He started with a small second-hand machine and little by little acquired more customers. He strengthened his business and managed to earn enough income to support his teenage son and give him a good education.

With the support of the loan Roberto will buy supplies wholesale (ink, paper, and cardboard). He'll also have the capital to work more comfortably and have a greater variety available for his customers. He'll also be able to extend credit to his regular customers, helping make them loyal and earning more income for himself.

Roberto said his biggest desire is to position his business well in the marketplace so he can earn recognition and have longevity. Consequently he'll ensure a better quality of life for his family and be able to give his son a college education, making him an upstanding and successful professional.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
