María Teresa
Maria is a small businesswoman who is hard-working and dedicated. She manufactures clothing for wholesalers.

It all started more than eight years ago when she was working in a clothes workshop and was able to learn about the industry. Now, at 40 years of age, she has her own workshop and has six people working for her. She works every day and her main area is producing pants and shirts for uniforms. In this way, she can generate sufficient income to be able to support her husband with the household expenses.

She will invest this credit in a double-needle sewing machine. This will help her to satisfy her customer demands and be able to deal with orders on time. This will improve production and win new customers, which will allow the company to survive.

She dreams of strengthening her workshop business and having a higher level of production each day, which will generate more employment and improve the quality of life both for her family and for those who work with her.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
