Mary Luz
Mary, 37, is a hard-working and successful woman. She is a single mother with one adolescent daughter, who she has brought up with a lot of dedication and sacrifice.

She has been earning her living for the last ten years as an independent trader. She has a small kiosk located on a very busy street in the area where she lives. She works alone every day and sells snacks, fried foods, soft drinks and other things. This allows her to generate enough income to pay for the household expenses.

She finds the loan useful in helping her to achieve her aims, which are to strengthen her position and expand her business. She wants to buy some building material and pay the labor costs for this expansion, which will change the image of her shop and allow her to serve her customers better. This, in turn, will help her generate more profits.

Mary aims to continue working with the same determination and enthusiasm as her dream is to be able to pay for a university education for her daughter so she can have a prosperous and successful future.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
