Living in a rural village of the Kampong Cham province’s Chhoeng Prey district, Sophal is aged 45 years and married with two children. For the last 20 years, she has been farming rice and working as a paid worker. Together, she and her husband can earn about US $13 per day and can save about US $10 each day for their future needs.
This is the first loan for Sophal with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Now she is applying for a loan to buy a plot of farmland. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income from her current business so as to make a living better.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
