Samin
Samin, 53, is married with six children. Her family lives in a house with a thatched roof located in Kampong Cham province’s Memot district and the main sources of her family’s income are from cassava growing and rubber tree planting; it is the business that she has had for ages. Samin has been with VisionFund for two cycles with successful repayments. For this cycle, she wants to focus on her child's education instead. Therefore, she applied for an education loan with VisionFund (Kiva's partner). She will spend her entire loan portion to cover the tuition fee for her son who wants to continue a tertiary degree majoring in Nursing. She hopes that this financial aid will help her son to not worry about his school's cost and pay more attention in his study.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of VisionFund Cambodia’s higher education program, designed to provide financing to students in poor households who otherwise lack the financial support to continue their studies. Very few students have the financial resources necessary to go to college. VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
