Nacor, who is 50 years old, has earned a living on his own. He started many years ago working as a fish merchant in his home town, but later, for reasons beyond his control, he had to move to the city. There he started a deli where he sells pastries, liquor, soft drinks, and other products. He also complements his income by working as a musician at night and on weekends. In this way, he has been able to generate enough income to provide for his family’s expenses.
With the loan that he is requesting, he wants to buy a sound amplifier to improve the atmosphere of the store and to take it to his music events so that he can offer better service to his customers so that he can become better known and then attract new clients.
Nacor explains that his greatest wish is to be able to guarantee his family’s wellbeing. That is what he works for enthusiastically every day, so that he can reduce his debts and liberate his cash flow for his businesses. This will, in turn, improve his profitability and help him to provide a better quality of life for his family.
This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
