Originally from a rural village of the Kampong Chnang province’s Tek Phos district, Channy is 56 years old and married with three children. She earns a living through farming rice, and in order to feed and support her family members, she also works as a tailor and sells rice soup. Having been in these businesses for 34 years, she is able to earn about US$17 per day, and manages to save about US$9 each day for the future needs.

Channy has been with VisionFund for two loan cycles and completely paid back the past loans. Now she is applying for a loan to pay her child’s tuition fee. She hopes this loan will enable her to keep her child in school.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
