Ever since Jose came to the U.S. from Mexico 10 years ago, he’s been managing restaurants. His boss at the time owned eight restaurants, and Jose told him that if he ever decided to sell one of them he would be interested in buying it. Jose performed phenomenally while managing for his boss and worked tirelessly to save money so that when the opportunity arose he could become his own boss.

In 2012, Jose’s boss offered to sell him one of his restaurants and, shortly after, Jose would call it his own. With a passion for customer service, Jose’s top priority of business has always been satisfying his customers. Since taking over the Beach Grass Café, he has expedited service and utilized review sites such as Yelp to insure that customers are happy with their experience at his restaurant. Jose currently employs 16 people, who love working for him because of the utmost respect he treats them with and the pleasant environment his management provides.

This loan of $7,200 from Kiva will help Jose cover many incidental expenses, such as broker’s fees, incorporation fees, licenses, etc., and will also enable him to completely pay off the previous owner.

Jose tracks his sales and performance daily and is constantly working on improving his cafe. In the future, he would like to be the favored restaurant in the community and hopes to eventually own more restaurants of his own. He also hopes to better provide for his family, giving his two daughters better opportunities than he had growing up.
