Ama P. is a 37-year-old mother of two children who are in school. She is very hard working and resourceful. For two years she has been selling charcoal in her neighborhood. Charcoal is a very popular source of energy for cooking in almost all traditional Ghanaian homes. Ama obtains charcoal from the villages surrounding of Obuasi, where she lives, and she retails the charcoal to her customers. She wants to use the loan to buy a bulk supply of charcoal to increase her inventory. She hopes the loan will enable her to increase her savings so she can pay her children's educational fees. She belongs to the community group called Ntoboase Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee the repayment of loans for one another.
