Carmen Jazmin
The credit group Nueva Alianza meets every fifteen days In the canton of Pichincha. This is a dynamic area where most of its inhabitants work in agriculture and animal husbandry. It is a region with a lot of vegetation, with a river running through it which is favorable for crops.

This is where Carmen lives. She is 24 years old and is in a committed relationship from which she has two children, 5 and 3 years old. The elder one is in school. Her husband works as a lumberjack.

Carmen is a woman who is always concerned about the well being of her family and that is why she raises animals. She does this from her house. She invests some of the loan in this, but with each loan she is slowly making improvements to her house. She is most grateful to the institution for this because it allows her to improve her family's quality of life. With this loan she plans to finish part of a room that she needs for her children. This loan is for the purchase of construction materials and feed for her chickens. She has been with the credit group for 5 years and likes it because the loans allow her to improve her house every day. Her dream is to finish fixing up her house.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
