Marilou, age 51, is married and lives in Bato, Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, Mindanao, Philippines. She has two children. From her desire to help the family, she engaged in a fish vending business, starting up with capital of 3,000 PHP. Her business has operated for 20 years already.
Now, she is planning to borrow PHP 14,900 from Paglaum MP Cooperative, of which she became a member.
She wants to have a stall in the public market to display her fish. Someday, she will be happy seeing her children finish their studies.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
