Annia
Annia, 38 years old, is married and lives with her husband, who is her top priority. With her loan, she plans to buy fertilizer, fungicide and to pay for manual labor to prepare a plot of land to plant mamón trees [a type of fruit, similar to a lychee]. She will also buy good quality tree grafts.

With the crop from this new plantation she hopes to have better earnings and thereby improve the living conditions of her family, and also invest a bit more in the area of crops and also achieve various goals.

This is the first loan she has received from FUDECOSUR. She hadn’t had a loan before from a state bank, but FUDECOSUR offers loans with greater ease of use and much lower interest rates.

Additional Information

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
