Fatma
Fatma was born in 1972 and she has three children. She married when she was 19 years old. She separated from her husband at 27 and began contending with difficulties in her life. She began to try to continue her life and stand on her own two feet, with self-confidence, and she was successful.

Now, Fatma is 42 and she earns her living selling for a chain store. She also sells children's clothing to her friends. She's assembled a great circle of friends.

With the loan from Maya, Fatma will have pre-funding. Her sales will rise. In the future, her dream is to expand her business with these small loans and an entrepreneur loan.

Asked if she wants to add anything, Fatma says, "I have succeeded, and you can, too."

More information about this loan

Maya works to extend access to finance in Turkey, a country which, as a whole, has very limited microfinance services. By supporting this loan, you are helping Maya continue their work and specifically reach female borrowers in Turkey, many of whom come from rural parts of the country.

About Maya

Although Turkey is one of the largest economies in the region, it has not reached its potential for microfinance investment. Deficient legal structures for microfinance credit initiatives and lack of quality information about microfinance demand and structure in Turkey are the largest obstacles to improvements in the field. Under these challenging conditions, Maya provides group and individual loans to low-income women who lack access to the financial services they need in order to start or improve their own small-scale businesses. Maya, established in 2002, was Turkey’s first microcredit program. Maya is Kiva’s first Field Partner in Turkey and posted its first loans in August 2011. Headquartered in Istanbul, Maya has four branch offices. For more information, visit Maya’s partner page.
