Filemón is 40 years old and was born in Campero province. He is single and has a daughter who is independent. He currently lives in his daughter's house in the town of Ivirgarzama. Filemón only has primary education because of the limited income of his parents, who did not help him to continue with his education. For the same reason he started work very young and one of his uncles took him to the tropical area of Cochabamba to help him with the harvests.

After a while he met the mother of his daughter who in the end left him, and since them he has taken on full responsibility for her on his own. After a great deal of work, he used his savings to buy a piece of agricultural land where he grows cassava and rice.

Filemón is now asking for a loan to build a small house on his land, because he does not want to be a nuisance to his daughter any more and he wants to have his own house and improve his living conditions.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
