The communal bank “Bienvenidos” will begin their third loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Centro Focal de Panamericana. It consists of eight members and has a board of directors, of which Cecilia is president. The businesses belonging to the members of the communal bank are varied, including: weaving textiles, selling food, knitting vicuña blankets, a sewing workshop, a neighbourhood store, selling jumpers, and selling vegetables.

The loan will benefit the small micro-businesses where Cecilia is a member. She says that this is the fourth year that she is a member of Pro Mujer, having joined at the invitation of her daughter-in-law, who is a member of the institution. She currently has a business which sells vegetables. She began doing this eleven years ago when her son married and she had to help her daughter-in-law in her business. After some time passed and she had a little capital, she decided to start her own business.

The loan is for an increase in capital (purchasing vegetables wholesale), which she will obtain from fairs in the city of El Alto and later sell in her stall. This work allows her to generate what income she can for her household, since she is single and has two children.

When she was asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, she responded that she liked the medical consultations and the assistance the institution offers to them.

One of the member’s daughters is in the picture and is wearing a black jumper.
