Mr. Krut K., 64, and his wife, Mrs. Rab Aum, 58, who live in a small village across the Mekong River about fifteen kilometers from Phnom Penh, married in 1969 and have seven children; two sons and five daughters. Two of their children are married; one of them lives in the family home. Two other children are garment factory workers. One son raises cows and the youngest one studies in a local school.

Mr. Krut has been a construction contractor for eight years. Beside the construction business, he and his wife have been farming since 1980. They grow rice to sell and for food. Currently, the couple is building their new house and lack the money to build the staircase of the house. Therefore, Krut is requesting a loan of US$ 1200 to build a staircase for his house. Part of the money will go for purchasing a water pumping machine for growing rice.
