María Dolores
Fifty-five-year-old María is married and a mother to two children, whom she raised and looked after with a lot of love and hard work.

For the last ten years, María has been an independent businesswoman. She started off selling merchandise and then had a shop selling miscellaneous items. She had to close the shop, however, due to public order issues in the local areal. María now has a lot of free time as her children are adults. As a result, María wants to start her business work again - she wants to start selling miscellaneous items from a room in her home. She can take advantage of the fact that she knows many distributors, allowing her to offer a great variety of items at very good prices.

This idea has motivated María to apply for a loan. She will use it to buy a display case and stock (cosmetics, accessories, personal hygiene products, nail varnish and more) in bulk. She can then start her project, with which she hopes to earn a very good income in order to support her husband with household costs.

María wants to work in business again. She wants to consolidate her enterprise and give it a good place on the market, so that it is well-known in the area. María would like her business to give her financial stability in order to enjoy a higher quality of life with her family.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
