The communal association "FLOR DE PAPA" will begin its fourth cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Focal de Panamericana Center. It is comprised of eight members and is directed by a leadership committee led by Sonia, the President. The members' businesses are diverse and include: sale of baby beds, a beauty salon, macrame of blankets, bookbinding and cosmetics sales. The loan they take will benefit small women microentrepreneurs, of which Sonia is one.

Sonia indicates that she has been with Pro Mujer for three cycles, joining through the invitation of her sales promoter who is a member of the institution. Currently she has a bookbinding business. She learned this business through her partner, with whom she started the business. As time went by she became independent and currently she has her own work space.

The loan which she is taking now is for an increase in capital (the purchase of cardboard) which she will acquire from markets in the city of El Alto and after elaboration she will distribute it to soliciting entities. This form of work allows her to generate resources to maintain her home, since she lives in a common law marriage and has four children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the savings, loan and health services offered by the institution.

The photo is missing one group member because she had a medical appointment at the time the photo was taken.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
