Mumtaz's Group
In this Group: Mumtaz, Musarat
Mumtaz is 35 years old; she is a responsible mother living happily in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. This is her third loan with the BRAC; she is a longtime member; she has been taking loans according to the needs of her family.

She belongs to a poor family and it is very difficult for her to fulfill all the household expenses at low earnings. Her husband has been changing the nature of his business according to the weather; he sells vegetables in the summer season and fish in the winter season. Nowadays, the winter season is going on and this season he does not have enough money to buy fish because the prices of fish have inflated since last year.

Therefore, Mumtaz requested a loan for her husband, so he can buy various kinds of fish to carry on his business. She is very impressed with this honorable support. She thanks Kiva and the field partner, BRAC Pakistan.

Note: Mumtaz is wearing a green shawl in the given picture.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
