They long ago joined forces to access the benefits provided by the institution. The loans have improved their businesses and have helped them to succeed.

One of the members of this group is Orlanda, who is 54. She is married and has two adult children from this relationship, one of whom lives with her. Her husband does not work due to his health.

Orlanda is a very hard-working woman who has always enjoyed succeeding on her own, especially now after her husband's sickness. He does not work and on the contrary, requires a lot of care.

She decided 15 years ago to put a business in her house, from which she sells fish stew. Her business is only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as that is when the most customers come. With this, she earns enough to get her family ahead. Thanks to this, they don't lack food on the table, or the medication her husband needs.

This loan is to buy foodstuffs to prepare her delicious dishes. She is a founding member of the loan group and likes it because it helps her by providing loans. Her dream is that her husband is well.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
