Jerodin School
Jerodin School
Greetings from Uganda! This is Juliet. She is the head teacher Jerodin Primary School, a mixed school in the Peri-urban area of Kitooro in Entebbe with 350 students. Jerodin Primary School has requested a loan to cover the cost of installing and maintaining a UV water filtration system to provide clean drinking water for its students. The school does not currently have access to consistent clean drinking water and therefore has to spend a considerable portion of its budget on firewood, which is used to boil water for the children. Installing a water filtration system will therefore save the school money in the long-term as the cost of firewood will be reduced. The loan will enable the school to purchase a UV water treatment system with a 450 litre tank, which will be big enough to store clean drinking water for the students every day.

Jerodin Primary will repay their loan from their school fees, which they collect each term. This will be supplemented by the sale of carbon credits, which the school will generate from using the water tank. Juliet ultimately hopes that having access to safe drinking water will improve her student’s concentration and attendance by reducing the number of children that fall sick from water-borne diseases as well as increase the number of students coming to the school.

More information about this loan

This loan supports the purchase of a Safe Water System for a school located near urban areas in Uganda. The water treatment system will increase access to safe water for students, reduce the cost burden of fuels used to boil and sanitize water, and help people adopt healthier sanitation practices. This loan will be used to provide borrowers with needed goods or services, as opposed to cash or financial credit. The loan repayments are tied to the start of the school term, which is the time when schools have the highest cash flow as a result of school fees. By supporting this loan, you’re helping school children and teachers access safe water.
