All the group members are dedicated and committed to enhance their business and make a handsome amount of money, so that they will be able to educate their children and have a better standard of life.

One of the group members is Saraswati, the lady standing first from the right. She is thirty-one years old, a married lady, and lives with her parents-in-law, husband and her two children, aged three and six years. Her first child goes to a local school.

She has been engaged in cow rearing and cows’ milk selling for the last three years. From this activity, she is able to contribute a small share to her family's household expenditures. She wants to register her first child in a good school.

She, along with all the group members, has requested a loan to invest in their respective businesses for enhancing their business activity. Saraswati will use her portion to purchase a Jersey cow and renovate its shade.

She is very excited to take this loan, and she says, "We are grateful to Kiva and its lenders for providing us this opportunity."

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
