Jocely, is 45 years old and lives in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental in the Philippines. She had three children and was happily married for five years. For those years of having a family, her fish lending was the only business where Jocely and her husband generated enough to live and survive in this world.
Jocely has been a member of Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative for three years. With it, she asks for financial assistance from the institution for the amount of 12,000 PHP to buy "banyeras" (big basins) of fish to sell. Through it, she can have expand her business to nearby municipalities.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
