Amalio
Amalio is a microbusiness owner and client of Kubo Financiero and this is his story:

Amalio is 55 years old. He is married (he appears with his wife in the photo) and has 5 children, who are all married and are no longer dependent on him. He lives in his own house and has a home-style restaurant that he runs with his wife.

In his business, he offers his customers Mexican food and snacks that he, his wife, and their employee make. He is asking for this loan in order to make some necessary improvements to his house, such as waterproofing the roof of his home.

Amalio's business has allowed him and his wife to live well and move their children forward; this is why he works so hard and takes such care of it. His goal is to open another home-style restaurant in the same colonia.

By doing business in a new way -- leveraging technology and customized risk profiles -- the organization is able to support microfinance clients throughout the country. With funds from Kiva lenders, Kubo is able to expand its lending network even further, reach riskier clients who have less credit history, decrease interest rates for borrowers, and scale its service area.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
