The "13 de Febrero" loan group meets every fortnight in the Villamarina barrio of Manta, a city known for its beautiful beaches which have visitors all year round. Manta is also known for being a city unrivalled in beauty and for having many tourist attractions.

The members of the "13 de Febrero" group decided to come together and form a loan group that will be of great help to them. The members are going to use the loans to improve their small businesses. The members work in different areas, such as general business, selling food, offering services and more.

One member of the group is 26-year-old Geomara. She has a partner and a seven-year-old son, who is in school. Geomara's partner is a locksmith.

In order to earn a living on her own, and to help her household prosper, Geomara has a business selling all types of clothes. She sells both door-to-door and in her house, where her customers come to visit her. Geomara works whenever she has spare time and sells to customers on credit, collecting payments every fortnight. Geomara will also give part of her loan to her husband to buy materials for his work: he builds doors, windows and other items for private customers. Geomara has been doing her work for five years and, with it, she is helping her family to prosper.

Geomara will use this loan to buy merchandise such as trousers, blouses and shirts, and solder, paint and other materials for her husband.

Geomara has been part of the loan group for three cycles now and she likes it because of the help she receives through the loans. Geomara dreams of giving her son the best life possible.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
