Phien is 34-years-old and she lives with her husband, along with her 10-year-old son. They are Thai minority and live in an old temporary house.

Phien has been a farmer since she was a child. Presently, she works at lots of agriculture production including cultivating rice, vegetables, raising chickens and pigs, which brings a monthly income of approximately VND 5,000,000. Not only that, her husband also works in construction for local employers to have enough money for living expenses and make some savings for rebuilding the house. She said she would use the loan this cycle from Anh Chi Em to buy food and vaccines for pigs. She hopes that after using the loan and the knowledge from ACE training, she could improve her family income.

Phien and her partner are both illiterate, they do not want their child to be a farmer. She dreams that her kid would become an officer working in state.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
