Houng, who is 40 years old, is a rural villager from Battambang province's Ek Phnom district where crop farming is a popular business in the neighborhood. To make a living, he has been working as a motor-taxi driver while his wife sells fish in the village. Together, they have been engaged in this business for 20 years.
This is the sixth-cycle loan for Houng with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. The past business loans, which he successfully paid back, have helped him to sustain his living conditions as well as his business in a gradual manner. He is now asking for a loan to buy more fish for resale. He hopes to make more income from his current business.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
