Samon, 34, is a resident from Cherng Prey district of Kompong Cham province. To cover the daily food consumption in her household, Samon grows rice on 1.5 hectares of farmland and works as a paid worker to earn additional income. Now, she is able to earn up to 38,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.
Samon, a second-time borrower with a successful repayment of her original loan that has supported her business in a timely way, is seeking a new loan of 3,000,000 KHR with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She will use her entire loan portion to pay for the harvesting fee and plowing fee for her agribusiness. She highly believes that she can timely plow her rice field so that she can make more income again.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
