Chanthorn, 50, lives in a rural village of Kampong Cham province’s Koh Sotin district, Cambodia. She is widowed with eight children. To make a living, she has been growing tobacco for 30 years. To make more income, she also works for others for a fee. She earns about USD 7 per day from her current business.

Chanthorn is a first-cycle client with VisionFund. Now, she is asking for an education loan. She is going to use this loan to pay for her son to study Civil Engineering. She hopes that this loan will enable her to keep her son in the university until graduation and help to relieve her family's financial burden so she can sustain and grow her business.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
