Esmelda
She is from Puerto Cabezas, is 40 years old and married with three children who are of school age. In order to have her own source of income, she set up a small business in a wooden booth on the porch of her home three years ago. She organized a solidarity group to take out a loan with PANA PANA.

Es originaria de Puerto Cabezas, tiene 40 años de edad, casada con tres hijos, en edad escolar. Con el propósito de tener su propia fuente de ingresos hace un año estableció su pequeño negocio en el corredor de su vivienda de tambo de madera. Organizó un grupo solidario para gestionar un préstamo en PANA PANA. Actualmente solicita financiamiento para comprar mercadería: Escoba, chivería, granos básicos, papel higiénico, sopas instantáneas, toallas sanitarias. Su sueño es apoyar a su familia, debido a que su esposo es taxista, sin embargo en los últimos meses el taxi ha presentado problemas mecánicos, por lo que no le ha permitido prestar el servicio de transporte y brindarles recursos económicos a su familia. También anhela construir su vivienda de cemento.

About Pana Pana

Pana Pana is a nonprofit civil association founded in 1990 in Nicaragua. The organization’s official name is Asociacion para el Desarrollo de la Costa Atlantica (Association for the Development of the Atlantic Coast) but they have always been know as Pana Pana which means “mutual help” in the local language.

Pana Pana offers loans for commerce, housing, and a small number of agriculture loans. They also have a small social development unit that runs Pana Pana’s non-financial services. This includes technical assistance for housing loans and the development of a water and sanitation project.
