The community association group "LAS MAGNÍFICAS" [The Magnificent] will begin its fourth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the regional office of Villa Adela. The group is composed of eight members and is headed by a board of which Teodora is President. The businesses that the members of the community association have are varied and include cleaning, selling clothing, selling fruit, selling food, selling coca, dying wool, weaving macrame, providing a shuttle service, and selling dairy products.

The loan they are requesting will be useful to a small microentrepreneur like Teodora. She has been working with Pro Mujer for four loan cycles, entering on the invitation of her friend who is also a member of the institution. Today, she has a business selling dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, and more). She learned this business from previous work she did in a factory. She then decided to become independent and took out a loan with Pro Mujer to start her own business.

The loan will bring an increase of working capital she will use toward buying milk. She will buy it from the communities surrounding the city of El Alto and then make her product to sell to dairy companies. This business allows her to generate resources to maintain her home for her husband and four children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Teodora says that she likes the health education that the institution offers.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
