Khoern is 58 years old and married. She lives with her husband and five children in a rural area located in the district of Moung Russey, Cambodia. She is a rice farmer who has been growing rice for ten years. To increase the family's income, her husband works for others for a fee and raises pigs. She is able to earn about 23,000 KHR per day.

This is the second loan for Khoern with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Now leading her group of five to ask for a loan, Khoern who is the leader, will use her portion to spend on harvesting rice and use a portion of it to spend on buying pig feed. She hopes to make more income from her current business so as to make a better living.

The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
