Neang is a 41-year-old married woman from Kandal province. She and her husband have three kids, who are all in school.

She covers her family's daily costs of living with her pig-raising and grocery sales businesses. Her husband runs a motor-taxi business to provide additional income for their family.

Neang is not a first-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The positive impact of her prior loan, which she completely repaid, enabled her to improve her family's living conditions. Now she is applying for a new loan to pay for her son's school fees because he is studying electronic engineering. She hopes to keep her son in university until his graduation.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of VisionFund Cambodia’s higher education program, designed to provide financing to students in poor households who otherwise lack the financial support to continue their studies. Very few students have the financial resources necessary to go to college. VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
