The communal association "Plana Mayor" will start its first cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Centro Focal de Villa Adela. It has eight members and is led by a management team where Estela is the president. The businesses that the members run are varied and include: sale of canned food, vest sewing, shower and bath services, hardware store, meat sale, local store and jacket knitting.

The loan will benefit small microentrepreneurs, including Estela. She says she has been a member of Pro Mujer for 10 years after a friend, who is also a member, invited her. She currently runs a local store that she started after realizing there was a need for a grocery store.

She plans to use the loan to increase capital (buy canned food and groceries) that she will obtained from communities close to the city of El Alto. She will then sell the product in her store. This job allows her to generate resources and cover household expenses. She's married and has five children.

When asked about what she likes in Pro Mujer, she says she likes what the institution offers.

One of the members is missing in the image because she was at the doctor.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
