Gemma is 46 years old. She is married and has two high school students. She lives in Sinian, Baliangao, Misamis Occidental. Gemma has engaged in rice farming as a business for 20 years, earning a monthly income of 4,000 PHP (Philippines pesos). Her husband is also a farmer; they own a small parcel of land to work on as the source of their income.
Gemma requested a new loan to buy three head of pigs to raise as another means to pay for her children's tuition. She is striving for her children's future.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
