Jay Hanuman Self Help Group is a group consisting of 11 members, all of whom are women. These entrepreneurs are very humble, hardworking and responsible people with good manners and lots of enthusiasm to improve their lives.

A few years back, they all were facing the same kind of situation of poverty, so they planned to start grocery shops where they can provide the basic household consumables to their customers. One of them is Kanak, who was selected as their president.

Kanak is a 39-year-old lady living with her husband and her one son who is at his schooling. The lady in the picture standing third from the right in the front row is Kanak. Her husband works as a laborer in a factory situated near to her village. She runs a grocery shop to help her husband financially. She sells rice, grains, lentils, edible oil, spices, biscuits, soap, detergent, hair oil, etc. in her shop. She has developed a very good relationship with her customers in the village. She likes the fact that she can cater to the needs of the people in her village.

She has a plan to make her shop bigger and keep multiple things in her shop to satisfy her customers. She also wants to purchase the items for her shop in bulk directly from the wholesalers, for which she has requested a loan to purchase items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soft drinks, wheat flour, grains and other household consumables.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
