Group member Mwambikwa has been a merchant for the past seven years. She is advisor and member of the "Ephata" business group. She is 36 years old, married with five children, of whom three attend school and the other two are not yet of school age.

She sells used clothing, and is requesting a loan from the Hekima IMF to increase her business activity. This new loan will serve to buy one bale of used clothing. Her spouse is a mason, and she had received her first funding from her ​​husband.

In the future, she wants to increase her business activity, and see to her children's schooling, clothing and nourishment.

She thanks Hekima for its support to non-bankable women entrepreneurs who have gone through difficult times due to conflicts in the eastern part of the country.

La Cliente Mwambikwa est une Commerçante depuis 7 ans, conseiller et membre d’un groupe d’Affaires « Ephata » âgée de 36 ans, mariée et mère de 5 enfants dont qui, 3 étudient et 2 autres sont encore gamins. Elle est vendeuse de friperie. Elle sollicite un prêt auprès de l’IMF Hekima pour accroitre ses activités. Ce nouveau prêt va la servir pour acheter 1 ballon de friperie. Son conjoint est un technicien maçon. Elle avait reçu son premier fonds par le biais de son mari. Dans l’avenir, elle souhaite accroitre son activité, scolariser, vêtir et nourrir ses enfants. Elle remercie Hekima pour son soutien aux femmes entrepreneurs non bancables et qui ont traversé des moments difficiles de conflits dans la région de l’Est du pays. Il sied de signaler que certaines clientes portent leurs bébés.

HEKIMA is a microfinance institution headquartered in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with branch offices in Goma and Bukavu. HEKIMA aims to contribute to the transformation of the economic, social, and spiritual lives of the economically active poor of the DRC. To this end, HEKIMA provides its clients with solidarity group loans to support income-generating activities. Despite ongoing instability and violence in its operating areas, HEKIMA continues to keep its doors open and provide credit and savings services for its over 90% female clientele.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
