Rima is a 34-year-old Lebanese married woman living with her husband and only child attending school. In 2008, she started running her tailoring business at her home. Her income is important to help with her household expenses and pay her child’s school fees.
Her story exemplifies the day-to-day challenges Lebanese women are facing in running a business and at the same time raising children and taking care of their houses. Her husband works at a local company, and they cooperate together to meet the needs of life.
Today, she is asking to borrow a loan from Kiva partner Vitas s.a.l. to purchase new tailoring machinery. She states that the loan will certainly help her extend her trade and increase her income by a large percentage. In the future, she plans to borrow more Kiva loans to develop her work further.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
