Luz G., born in Bahia de Caráquez, has lived in Guayaquil, Ecuador for 10 years now with her parents and brothers. She is 44 years old and has two children. Luz’s business sells household items and candy, and it is run out of her house. She has been in business for 15 years and works from 6:00 am until 8:00 pm. When her husband is not driving his taxi, he helps out with the business. Luz would like an $800 loan so that she can buy a display case and buy products that her clientele requests. Ms. G. and her husband demonstrated that they can run an efficient business and that they have a proper understanding of financial management. Luz reports that she does not want to be forced to borrow from a loan shark because they charge outrageous interest rates and impede the progress of her business.
