The Economic Interest Group (GIE) Sad 7 is made up of ten people who all live in the same neighbourhood, and all run the same type of business.

Mamadou (with his hand raised in the photo) is the president of the group. He is married to two women, and has five children. He is the only person responsible for the day-to-day financial needs of his family. Mamadou is a farmer and grows vegetables, he has more than ten years' experience in his business.

Mamadou will use his loan to buy fertilizer and seed, such as carrots, cabbages, chillies and peanuts.

In the future, with the help of loans from the field partner, Mamadou would like to become a vegetable supplier to wholesalers.

Le GIE SAD 7 est composé de 10personnes qui habitent le même quartier et faisant tous la même activité. La personne qui a levé la main sur la photo s’appelle Mamadou, il est le président du groupement. Il est marié et père de famille. Il pratique l’agriculture et le maraichage et a une expérience de plus de 10ans dans cette activité. Il a deux femmes et cinq enfants, et c’est lui seul qui prend en charges toutes leurs charges ainsi que leur dépense quotidienne. Il demande ce montant pour acheter des intrants et semences comme le carotte, choux, piment, arachides ……. A l’avenir il souhaite et grâce aux crédits l’institution devenir le fournisseur de légumes pour les revendeurs.

To reach borrowers who would not normally qualify for loans, UIMCEC has developed partnerships with a number of local organizations created by the poor to promote savings and mutual support. Most members of these organizations take group loans from UIMCEC. Some group members have larger businesses requiring more capital, and therefore receive individual loans. To meet their needs, UIMCEC is offering this loan at a lower interest rate with no material guarantee requirement. By supporting this loan, you are helping poor borrowers access credit at  lower interest rates.

About UIMCEC

This loan is administered by UIMCEC, a Kiva Field Partner in Senegal since 2008. UIMCEC is a government-regulated microfinance institution whose mission is to improve the revenue and well-being of families through access to financial services, allowing principally women and young adult micro-entrepreneurs living in rural and semi-rural areas to develop their revenue-generating businesses and supporting them in becoming financially self-sufficient.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
