Al is 47 years of age and a resident of Brgy. Maloro, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. He is married with two children. He has a prawns and crabs production business from which to earn a living. With the business, he meets many challenges, but he realizes that it is good to face the challenges rather than get discouraged.
Al and his wife work hard in selling their catch to the market. Sometimes there are wholesale buyers from other towns and cities who come to buy their crabs and prawns. With their savings, they welcome the idea of expanding their business. They have requested from Paglaum MPC a 50,000 PHP (Philippines pesos) loan. They feel assured of Paglaum’s help, should there be a need for working capital in the future. Al smiles at the thought of seeing their children get their own diplomas one day.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
