It is the birthplace of great sportspeople, writers, and, above all, very friendly people.

One member of the group is Betti. She is taking out her first loan, alongside her friend and fellow group members. Betti was invited to join the group by her sister-in-law and she hopes that, with the loans, she can expand her business and learn from each of her friends.

Betti is 38 years old and has a partner. Together the couple has four children, aged 20, 16, 12, and 8 years old respctively. The eldest is studying at university and working to cover her expenses; the other three are in school. Betti's husband is a builder. The couple does not own a house but rents instead.

In order to help her husband with household costs, Betti works making and selling meals. She has had the business for three years, working seven days a week, from 8am until 8pm. Betti will invest this loan in crockery, tables, chairs, and supplies. Her dream is to have her own house.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
