Manuel De Jesús
Manuel is 32 years old and only completed up to sixth grade at school as his mother could not help him to keep studying. Manuel's father abandoned the family and Manuel's mother had to cover all household costs.

Manuel is married to a businesswoman and the couple has two children, both of whom are in school.

Manuel started working in an artisan brick factory at the age of 15. He stayed there for around 12 years but had to leave as he frequently suffered from urinary tract infections. However, the owner of the brick factory recommended Manuel to a friend who sold basic grains and Manuel started to work with him. Manuel has now been selling grains there for four years. From his home to work, Manuel must travel four kilometres, a distance he covers on his bicycle. He works from 8am until 5pm.

Manuel is applying for a loan in order to build a retaining wall all along his his property as nearby there is a growing river and, in the winter, the risk of flooding increases as the water flows down from higher altitudes. Manuel needs to reduce the dangers posed by this water, so that it does not enter his house and result in someone in his family suffering an accident.

Manuel plans to help his children to continue studying. In addition he intends to continue with his own basic education at the weekend. Manuel wants to pay off this loan so that he can take out another in order to achieve other dreams, one of which is to have his own business.
