Kamwite, age 52, is a secretary for the business group La Paix Virunga. She is a dynamic and experienced entrepreneur, and the mother of eight children who all go to school. Her spouse is a merchant of various goods. Kamwite sells spices at the public market, and sometimes from her home. She started her business with the help of her husband, and she has been conducting this activity for 24 years. She will use this new loan to buy 40kg of spices. Her goals are to expand her activity and support her children’s education. So far, the spoilage of merchandise has hindered the development of her business.

Kamwite wishes to thank the Hekima MFI for helping businesswomen to become self-sufficient who cannot use the traditional banking system, especially in these critical times of war in the Eastern region.

HEKIMA is a microfinance institution headquartered in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with branch offices in Goma and Bukavu. HEKIMA aims to contribute to the transformation of the economic, social, and spiritual lives of the economically active poor of the DRC. To this end, HEKIMA provides its clients with solidarity group loans to support income-generating activities. Despite ongoing instability and violence in its operating areas, HEKIMA continues to keep its doors open and provide credit and savings services for its over 90% female clientele.
