Yaneri, 20, is the mother of two children, ages 6 and 3. She lives in a common-law marriage with her partner. She moved to the city about two years ago looking for new opportunities to get ahead.

It has been difficult to find a job in a business, however, because she lacks work experience. This motivated her to start her own business, a vegetable shop where she sells a variety of fruits and vegetables. She also wants to start selling fried foods like empanadas, pastry, fried dough, and other things to supplement her income. She hopes to support her husband with the financial responsibility of the household.

Her drive and enterprising spirit lead her to request the support of the loan, with which she wants to buy shelves to store the produce, produce wholesale, shelving, and a tank of propane gas. This way she can begin her work project, with which she hopes to be able to improve her family's living conditions.

Yaneri knows that to achieve her goals and get her business ahead she has to work with discipline, determination, and a lot of dedication. This is the key to success and being able to keep on making progress toward realizing her dreams. She especially dreams of having her own store, which will generate more profits for her so she can give her children a better future that is full of opportunities to advance and be honest and successful people.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
