This client, Lucie, is a treasurer of the business association "Manne du ciel". She is a senior entrepreneur, experienced, energetic, 60 years old, a widow, and mother of seven children, who already have their own homes. Lucie is a vendor of 'pagnes' (the colorful cloth of western Africa). She sets up her merchandise in a busy district, particularly along the street. She started her business with a loan from the microfinance institution Hekima. She has been in this business for nine years.

This new loan will be used to purchase 15 bales of 'pagne' cloth. Thus, she would like to provide schooling to her grandchildren, expand her business plans, and build a nice house for her retirement.

In conclusion, she thanks Hekima very much for promoting autonomy among unbanked women entrepreneurs, especially during this critical time of war in the country's east.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
